Last fall, when the march was being talked about in Kentucky, I was in my home state of Illinois and had thought that I would join them there, and even discussed with some of the organizers on the phone, and reaching an agreement that mothers have the opportunity to be represented there, too, presenting our agenda of justice and equal access to identifying information. Then, my husband's job in Illinois, which was temporary anyway (but I am the eternal optimist), was completed and he was terminated and home we came. The economy, that is tough for young people fresh out of college is tough, but for older men with decades of experience it is brutal! So, we tightened our belts and Louisville faded in importance compared to house payment, taxes, groceries and utilities.
On Monday my husband started a brand new job, one from which he from which he will eventually retire....in about 20 years. He will be home most evenings and every weekend, a first for us since he has always traveled in his work. That's one reason that I retired, so I coculd go along. Now, we won't have to!

I cannot express how excited I am that this is happening here next year! I am so looking forward to meeting some of the people who have been my friends online and see old friends once again! I want to look at Texas Legislators and Illinois Legislators and Missouri Legislators (the states to which I have a personal interest) and tell them why I am so not afraid of having my son find me that we did so 20 years ago! And, that adoptees have EVERY right to their Original Birth Certificate.
SMAAC Mothers will have a booth there, with me in it, telling the legislators that we have every right to not only the Surrender Document and the Original Birth Certificate, which we should have received in the first place, but also, equal access as the adoptee and the adopters, to identifying information which, in our case would be the Amended Birth Certificate. I would also like to respectfully submit the wild idea that SMAAC Mothers and other mothers of the past want justice for the criminal practices that were used to wrest their infants from them during the EMS, the time period upon which all current laws and practices are based and the foundation of the Adoption Industry as we know it today.

I will see you there. Ill be the one marching with my F Dad!
I will be doing everything in my power to make it, even if for just the day of the march. Kin ah brang mah dawg?
you can bring your dawg, and your DH, too. He and Dan can play while we kick up our heels in Downtown SA.
Linda, I am preparing to contact my state legislator, Joaquin Castro, with whom I did some work in the past, to see what/where/when we can expect from him in the way of help. His twin brother, by the way, Julian, is the mayor of San Antonio, and has been mentioned as a possible future candidate for president.
Here is an interesting fact about them, relevant especially in this regard.....
"Julian and Joaquin Castro are the twin sons of Rosie Castro, a prominent San Antonio 1960s Chicana college militant. (They were born out of wedlock—their seldom-mentioned father is a community organizer turned teacher named Jesse Guzman.)"

SWEET!
There are neither enough YEEE's nor enough HAAAAAAA's in all of Texas to fully express how I feel about this post.
I was so sad you couldn't make it to Louisville. It's good to know there's a San Antonio expert on the ground, and even better to know it's YOU!
Yahoooooo!!
I will not promise - but I am heading off for vacation around that time - maybe - grad students don't have a lot of cash...So you never know! San Antonio is lovely in the fall and spring.
I will be there. My mother will be there. My sisters will be there. All of our kids will be there. My boyfriend will be there too. Possibly his family as well. I can see many members of Texans for Adult Adoptees being there as well too.
I'm glad you'll be taking part!
:)
ahOne happy aspect of this is that I will have the time to get some things done here, locally. I can do the boots on the ground kind of thing, since I have now retired.
I am so excited about this that I am going to try my hardest to get my son to come down for this. If he comes, it will be the second time in 20 years we will be together. I am going to work really, really hard to make it happen!
""one from which he from which he will eventually retire....in about 20 years.""
WHOA!!! Dan is going to 'retire' when he is almost 80 yrs old!!!!???
Aside from that...sending much positive energy your way!!
And sorry...but I have no desire to ever set foot in Texas again...not for any reason. But wish one and all Great Success!!
That was meant tongue in cheek, Chris, because Dan will likely NEVER retire. He is a little younger than I am, but not exactly a boytoy (although he does like to pretend....). We won't be able to afford it! They will likely carry him out feet first.....lol
